An image of David Morris

Hi, I'm David Morris, a 24yr research assistant currently employed by the University of Brighton UK. I graduated from Brighton University with a 2:1 in software enginnering in July 06. I'm currently engaged to a lovely girl called Louise (contact me if you know her and I'll pass your details on to her)

My intrests broadly fall within developing software, predomintly open source software, fishing, music and socialising which you can find out more about further on in website. Within the projects section of this site you'll find projects I'm working on currently. Also within the pictures section you'll find a selection of pictures I've chosen to share.

computer stuff
I've been using GNU/Linux now for around 4 years, and currently run Ubuntu on my desktops/laptops/servers at home. Within work I'm currently running Ubuntu on my desktop as well as on our graphical rendering cluster. I'm also involved in helping support users of the Ubuntu distribution through launchpad and the #ubuntu-uk IRC channel on freenode.net where my handle is 'DaveMorris'

Within my home network I currently am making use of xen to run my web and email servers as virtual machines, this has allowed me to consolidate the machines on to older hardware reducing my power consumption and allowing me to easily move them between hardware in the event of failure. I also make use of MythTV, this allows me timeshift digital TV to watch the programs around my schedule.

I'm also a member of both the Sussex linux user group and Brighton linux user group

hobbies
Course match fishing is my main hobby, my curent club is Hassocks Angling society which is a small friendly club in the heart of sussex. The various waters provide a nice mixture of silver and carp fishing. It's with this club that I fish the matches and represent in the Mid Sussex Winter League in the 'Hassocks Blue' team. - Which we won this time :)

I'm also into music of the alternative variety including rock, metal, punk, ska. This extends to seeing live shows in and around Brighton. I try to keep fit by lifting free weights once a week and doing cardiovascular exercise once a week.

about this design
This website is a mash up of two open source designs which can be found on the Open Source Website Design site. The two designs used are 4o3Gallery and deep. I've then added javascript to the pictures page to produce the thumbnails zooming to a larger image. Feel free to reuse this javascript, I'll be releasing it under a GPL2 Licence shortly.
